REVIEW SIGNIFICANT FIGURES and SCIENTIFIC NOTATION BEFORE TAKING THIS QUIZ!

Significant figures

Scientific notion

When measuring in physics, use significant digit rules--in particular for the double pan balance and for any meter stick or metric ruler.  All measurements are in metric units.  Estimate one more place that you can read on the measurement scale.

When solving problems, carry additional digits during your calculations.  When you get to your final answer, make sure it is written using significant digits.  Note the rules for addition/subtraction are different than for multiplication/division.

Please omit leading zeros in your answers and do not use scientific notation for this quiz.

You have one try and a 20 minute time limit on this diagnostic quiz.
