Course Description: Physics, the most fundamental of the natural sciences, is quantitative in nature and uses the language of mathematics to describe natural phenomena. Inquiry is applied to the study of matter and energy and their interaction. Learners will study natural and technological systems.

 Suggested Prerequisites: Students have completed and done well in Common Core III. 

 Topics Covered:

  1. Math for Physicists, One Dimensional Motion & Vectors
  2. 2D Motion & Forces
  3. Energy, Work & Power
  4. Momentum and Circular Motion
  5. Simple Harmonic Motion, Waves, Sound & Light
  6. Static Electricity, Electrical Circuits and Electromagnetism

Course Policies:

Supplies needed: A metric ruler, graph paper (you can buy this or print as needed), plain or lined paper, a scientific calculator, a device to log onto Canvas

 Scholarly Integrity: It is expected that the work you do will be your own.  This applies to ALL work in this course, whether it is on a test/quiz, homework, group work turned in individually, or lab reports. We will follow all the grading procedures and policies of Green Hope High School. The Green Hope High School Honor Code will be utilized in this class. Please see the school website with the policy and consequence

Late Work: Assignments turned in late will be accepted through the end of the unit and have a 25% point reduction as a late penalty.  It is the teacher’s discretion if assignments can be turned in after the unit; this will only be considered for extenuating circumstances.

There will be tests for each unit.  There will be six tests this semester.  There will be quizzes, classwork, and labs in each unit as well.

Final Grade Calculation:  Your grades are calculated according to WCPSS grading policy.  

Absences: If you are absent from class due to an educational opportunity/field trip/college visit.  Please get your work prior to your absence and turn it in upon the return of class.  Please communicate with me if you know you will be missing class.  If you are sick, let me know so I can help you come up with a plan to get you caught up once you are feeling better.  

Remote Learning Expectations: Daily, check the weekly schedule on Canvas to get the latest update.  Make sure you check the latest daily announcements and watch the assignments page for due dates.  

Google Meet Expectations: Be on time, be in a quiet place, be prepared, mute yourself when you aren’t speaking, participate (cameras on helps, but isn’t required), and be respectful. Note: All GHHS and WCPSS behavior policies apply to remote/virtual learning.
