Course Syllabus

Course Description

  • Civics and Economics is a required social studies course for graduation.  This course provides students with an understanding of how economic and political systems operate, and the context through which they were created. 
  • Through the study of Civics and Economics, students will acquire the skills necessary to become responsible and effective citizens in an interdependent world. 
  • Honor students should expect a high level of rigor, including taking independent reading notes, and time spent in and out of class writing and participating in background research used to support in-class case studies and discussions.

  • Major Assignments – 60%
  • Minor Assignments 40%
  • Major Assignments – 60%
  • Minor Assignments – 40%
  • First nine weeks – 40%
  • Second nine weeks – 40%
  • Final Exam – 20%*

Major Assignments – Tests and projects

Minor Assignments – Quizzes, classwork assignments, discussion boards, etc.

While Canvas does have a grades page, please utilize Powerschools to see your current grade as it uses the correct calculations for major and minor assignments.

Make-Up Work

  • It is YOUR responsibility to find out what you have missed.  Please contact your teacher if you have any questions.
  • Always check Canvas for missed assignments and notes.

Attendance 

According to WCPSS, attendance will be determined by any two-way interaction between teacher and student (ex: attendance to a Google Meet, email communications, submission of an assignment, participation in a discussion board, etc...).
