Course Overview and Objectives:
- Overview: This course covers the basic biological phenomena common to all living organisms. The areas covered include cellular and molecular levels of organization, genetics and mechanisms of heredity in organic evolution, reproduction and development, and introductory concepts of taxonomy and ecology.
- Objectives: Students will be able to :
- Analyze how one arrives at scientific conclusions through the construction and evaluation of lab experiments.
- Use of scientific methods.
- Discover the emergent qualities from atoms to organisms
- To compare and evaluate the principles and processes involved in the interrelationships of organisms and their environments.
- Compare and contrast the life processes in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
- Investigate DNA and how is shapes the lives of living things around us.
- Compare and contrast the six kingdoms of organisms and criteria used to assign species to each kingdom.
- Analyze the various theories of, and evidences for and against, the origin of life and evolution.

Policies and Procedures:
- Tardy: Classes begin and end with the bell. Students must be seated and ready to work when the tardy bell rings. Please refer to the handbook for tardy policy.
- Make-up Work: It is each student’s responsibility to ask for and make up and all work missed when absent. Any Quiz / Test missed as a result of an excused absence should be completed after school within two days from the administered date.
- Test and Quizzes: Tests will be announced at least three days in advance; quizzes may be unannounced.
- Extra Help: I will be available most days until 3 PM during soccer season and until 4 PM when soccer is not in session.
Management of student behavior:
- The following behaviors are disruptive to the academic environment and require immediate intervention.
- Failure to comply with directions. This includes talking, and/or using cell phones (or other electronic devices) when not directed to,
- Verbal abuse/disrespect
- Classroom Truancy(Skipping)
Consequences:
1st offence: Teacher/student Conference (Warning)
2nd offence: Parent contact and detention
3rd offence: Administrative Referral
Evaluation:
Students will be graded on a category system. Your average will be calculated based on the number of earned points earned in each category divided by total possible points in that category.
