About ECM

Essentials for College Math is a 4th level math class intended to help students get ready for non-STEM majors. In this course we will review everything you need to prepare you for a college level algebra course. The focus of this course is on understanding and exploring deeply.

Supplies

The following will be necessary for each student :

  • A computer capable of connecting to the internet. One can be provided, if necessary.
  • A notebook & pencil. Students should be prepared to take notes every day.
  • A TI-83 (or better) calculator. An virtual calculator is provided for download Click here: TI 83+ Graphing Calculator (Links to an external site.)

Expectations

  • Students are expected to log into class on time, everyday.  If a student is inactive for more than 10 minutes, they will be marked absent.
  • Students should be ready to work & participate the entire class period.  Talking through your headset/microphone is required!
  • Students are expected to check the announcement tab in Canvas daily. This is where I will post all assignments.  They should be completed on time!
  • Be smart about what you post on the Internet and what you say to others. The Internet is a lot more public and permanent than it seems.
  • Cheating & Plagiarism will not be tolerated. If you cheat in this class, you are cheating yourself out of learning and you probably won't do well. If you cheat in college, they will kick you out of school!

Procedures

These procedures make the class run smoothly. Please make sure you read and understand each one:

  • Students should be logged into the classroom by the beginning of the period.
  • When the teacher is explaining how to do something, pay attention AND TAKE NOTES!
  • If a student needs to get the teacher’s attention for any reason, they should raise their hand or put a question in the chat box. The teacher will answer your questions as quickly as possible, though it might not always be immediately.
  • The student should stay in the classroom until the teacher dismisses them.
