Python Course Overview 

Python Programming I curriculum teaches the foundations of computer science and basic programming, with an emphasis on helping students develop logical thinking and problem solving skills.

Programming Environment and Equipment

  • Programming Environment: Python programming language
  • Online site: Students code in the Active Code windows as part of the online text with CodeHS.
  • Computer Equipment: This course will be taught in a computer lab. Students will have access to computers during class.
  • Internet access will be made available to students during class to access the course site as well as other relevant sites.

Classroom Expectations: 

In order to meet the high standards expected at Apex Friendship and to provide an opportunity for ALL students to learn, the following behaviors are expected of every student at all times: 

  • Be present and on time. 
  • Be prepared and engaged in learning. (Phones and Devices are away at the start of class)
  • Be a person of character. 
  • Be safe and comply with Apex Friendship High School and WCPSS policies.

Late Work Policy

All work for each unit is due in canvas. ON TIME.  Anything unfinished in class should be completed for homework.  

Work submitted after the due date will be assessed a 10 pt. penalty per day it is LATE. Work submitted after 10 days will not be accepted.

Exceptions: Excused Absence

If you are absent for a valid reason, I will accept late work without penalty. You have one day for each day you are absent to submit the work.

Proof of Learning = Students will take the PCEP Exam-Python Certified Entry Level Programmer

Python 1 PCEP-Certification Exam 

The POL for this course will be the PCEP Professional certification given through Open Edge. It is an entry level professional certification. If students do not pass the certification exam they will be required to take a final exam. 

Plagiarism(Including use of AI for completing assignments)

Students are expected to follow the district’s Honor Code, Policy 4310Links to an external site..  When students violate the honor code through cheating, plagiarism, or other acts of falsification, students will (1) be referred to administration for a behavior referral, and (2) the student is at risk for potential loss of credit on the assignment.  Students will be provided an alternative assignment to show mastery. 

Cell Phone and Devices

Cell phones MAY NOT  be used during class/instructional time.  Phones should be TURNED OFF and IN BOOKBAG and earphones/earbuds must be removed during instruction.  Students using phones and devices when not advised will receive 1 WARNING and a call home. Subsequent violations will result in being referred to Admin. 

Computer Lab Desktop Computers

No student may use desktop classroom computers for personal use or gaming. Desktop computers in the classroom are used only for school work and testing purposes only. Students using desktop computers for gaming will receive 1 WARNING and a call home. Subsequent violations will result in being referred to Admin. 

Support

Support for students is provided Pat Time.  Students need to email Ms. Fox if they need to be placed in a Pat Time that is full
